The preliminary objective of the work carried out in this book revolved around and took inspiration from modern drug discovery procedures. It describes the processes typically followed during ‘early’ drug discovery stages, including in vitro antiviral activity and preliminary cellular toxicity testing. This book presents for the first time, novel potential antiviral compounds as well as existing off-licence therapeutics capable of treating the deadly henipavirus infections. It also describes a prospective antiviral target that may permit the discovery of antiviral drugs that could significantly contribute to the management of many lethal zoonotic pathogens.
