Teucrium polium has many functions in Iranian traditional medicine. Previous researchs showed this herb has anti carcinogenic effects. It also has anti proliftrative, anti-hypertensive, anti-bacterial, carminative, antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrhea, anti-diabetes and anti-convulsing activity. In this study we assessed the antinociceptive effects of this plant and probable mechanisms by standard methods (Writhing Test, Hot plate and Tail flick) of pain evaluation. Our study confirmed the involvement of opioidergic and adrenergic systems in anti nociceptive effects of T.polium. Based on its effects in opiodergic system we evaluated the effects of T.polium extract on morphine withdrawal syndrome.
