An undergraduate honours thesis providing a snapshot of the epidemiology of stroke and hypertension in the Middle East and North Africa. Prior to this, there was limited research in this area and fewer reviews from this region. As part the Global Burden of Disease Study, this thesis reviewed all available studies on the growing burden of stroke in this part of the word. The younger population of the Middle East and North Africa indicate that as the years progress, the impact of stroke will increasingly become a burden. By implication strategies and programs now to target risk factors, the burden can be greatly reduced.
