Traditional Armenian orthography (also known as classical orthography and Mashdotsian orthography) is the orthography developed during the early 19th century for the two modern dialects of the Armenian language - Eastern Armenian and Western Armenian. It is used primarily by the Armenian diaspora (including all Western Armenian speakers and Eastern Armenian speakers in Iran) which has rejected the Reformed Armenian Orthography created in Soviet Armenia in the 1920s. The Armenian diaspora alleges political motives behind the reform, citing the Soviet regime´s intent on Russifying the Armenian language.
